New bin tag price in operation.
South Dublin County Council new waste management charge is effective from today, Monday 3rd April 2006. Only those bins which are correctly tagged will be collected by the waste management service. Householders using the service should ensure that they use the correct tags–
€8.00 tag for the large bin - 240 litres
€4.00 tag for the small bin – 140 litres
An information leaflet outlining the increase in charges and outlining the range of services provided by south Dublin County Council was circulated to all houses in the County and notices were placed in the retail outlets selling bin tags.
This price increase is the first since ‘pay per use’ was introduced in 2004. Even with the introduction of the new charge, South Dublin County still provides one of the cheapest services in the country.
“Some complaints were received today because our staff did not collect bins which were incorrectly tagged” according to Michael Coleman, Environmental Services Department. He said “The new tags have been available in shops since the 20th March and notices were sent to the 83,900 households who avail of the service during March.”
Anyone with unused, intact €6/€3 bin tags can exchange those in the Council’s Payment Office in County Hall, Tallaght and Civic Offices, Clondalkin on payment of the additional amount.
South Dublin County Council provides a waste management service to almost 84,000 households in the County. This service consists of a weekly waste collection and disposal service and a green recycling bin service which is collected on a four weekly basis. In addition the Council provides a network of recycling bring banks, a Civic Amenity Centre, a Green Waste recycling Facility and an environmental awareness programme.
