Deputy Mayor, Karen Warren, on behalf of South Dublin County Council will present the Young Citizen Awards 2005 in the Council Chamber, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on Wednesday 22nd March at 7.00pm

The Young Citizen Award is an initiative which was developed in connection with the 2005 European Year of Citizenship through Education.  South Dublin County Development Board coordinated and assessed the applications received from young people aged 12-25 who are involved in their local communities through active citizenship projects, such as environmental work, caring for people, participating in democratic structures or affirming diversity.

A Civic Merit Award signed by the President of Ireland will be presented to three groups and one individual in the South County Dublin area who have become involved in active citizenship initiatives locally and the presentation of the certificates will provide an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of young people in local communities.

The awardees are:

Liam Downey – Firhouse Community College
Whitechurch Youth Development Project – Ballyboden
And And And Foriege Club – Tallaght
Little by Little Group - Tallaght
