South Dublin County Council’s response to protest at County Hall
on 24 November, 2005

A protest by the Building and Allied Trades Union took place this morning outside the headquarters of South Dublin County Council at County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24.  An information leaflet issued by the Union indicated that the protest was being held to highlight certain issues of concern to them in relation to unsafe sites.

No advance notice of the protest nor a request for a meeting had been received by the Council from the Union prior to the protest taking place.  Should notice have been given, the Council would have willingly met the Union to discuss their concerns thereby offsetting the requirements on the part of the Union to stage the protest which caused some local disruption and a potential hazard to passing traffic.

The Union accepted an invitation from the Council to meet to discuss the matters of concern to them and, at that stage, the protest ceased.  A further meeting with the Union is planned for Monday 28th November to allow the Council to examine the issues raised.
