Celebrating 150 years of Irish Public Libraries that’s what!
For on week starting June 20th 2005 South Dublin Libraries will join with public libraries throughout
On Wednesday 22nd June at 7.30 a Midsummer Feast of Writers takes place in Ballyroan Library, Rathfarnham.
Following on from their success at the James Joyce Summer School in
Library to read short extracts from their work. Mingle with the authors over a glass of wine and celebrate the longest
day of the year. Ivy Bannister, Sheila Barrett, Mary Rose Callaghan, Colette Connor, Celia De Freine, Catherine
Dunne, Mariyln McLaughlin, Lia mills, Clairr O’Conor and Mairide Woods will be there and all are welcome.
Which schools rugby legend did you say?
The Miseducation Years, The
the autobiographical series of the infamous Ross O’Carroll Kelly and have been a huge success in Irish publishing
recently. Paul Howard, the author of these books, is chief sports writer with the Sunday Tribune and a former Sports
journalist of the Year. He will read from his hilarious account of the life and times of Ross – a schools rugby legend in
Clondalkin Library on Wednesday 22nd at 7.30pm and all are very welcome.
Anything happening for children?
Oisin McGann fresh from the Bisto Awards and Gillian Perdue, winner of the Eilis Dillion Memorial Award will meet
children for Lucan and Tallaght during the weeklong celebrations. These visits are being organised in association with
local schools.
Have we forgotten the books?
Absolutely not! Eight new collections of books for adults and children will be available from the 20th June in branches
of
out – over 5000 new books are waiting for you.
