South Dublin County Council Statement

Re: Protest by David Glover & Roisin O’Callaghan at Clondalkin Offices Update

South Dublin County Council is pleased to announce that following a meeting with David and Roisin and their representatives at our Clondalkin Offices this morning (28 Apr 2005) their protest has been ended.

The Council, in partnership with the Health Board’s Community Welfare Office, the Dept of Social and Family Affairs, the Homeless Unit and the Dublin Simon Community, have arrived at an agreement with David and Roisin that both addresses their family’s immediate need for accommodation, and recognises the necessity for the Council to operate it’s Allocations system in a manner that is fair to all applicants.

Council staff would like to thank David and Roisin for their reasonable approach to our meeting today and wish them well in their future. Council staff are looking forward to working with David and Roisin as their housing application progresses.

The Council would also like to take the opportunity to thank our colleagues in the Clondalkin Community Welfare Office, the Dept of Social and Family Affairs (Clondalkin Office), the Homeless Unit and the Dublin Simon Community for their aid and support throughout the morning. Without their willingness to assist both this Council and David and Roisin it would have been far more difficult to achieve a satisfactory resolution.

More generally, the Council acknowledges the frustration experienced by applicants that may be on the waiting list for long periods and wish to reassure applicants that every effort is being made by Council staff to ensure that their applications are dealt with as speedily and as sensitively as possible.

The Council would appeal to applicants that they keep us fully informed of their current circumstances and any changes that occur. Only in this way can their position on the list can be kept as up to date as possible.

Council staff are more than willing to explain how an applicants position on the list has been arrived at, what the criteria for assessment are used and what supporting documentation can be taken into account when an application is being assessed.

The Allocations Section can be contacted at (01) 4149000 during normal office hours.
