Get Published Seminar County Library Tallaght, March 5th 2.30pm – 4.30pm

To mark world Book Day, Get Published is a public discussion and question and answer session which aims to address practical steps for emerging writers towards publishing or broadcasting their work. South Dublin County Council’s Writer in Residence, Dermot Bolger, will be in conversation with Ciaran Carty, Kate Minogue and Marianne Gunn O’Connor, discussing such issues as submitting short stories, poems and novels, the market for radio drama, how to find a literary agent and what agents do.

Ciaran Carty, one of Ireland’s most respected film critics, is editor of the Sunday Tribune’s New Irish Writings page and a judge of The Hennessy Awards, which have proved to be a launch pad for such authors as Joseph O’Connor and Colum McCann.

Kate Minogue has worked in radio drama as an actor, producer, director and adapter. More recently she has concentrated on directing and producing, her most outstanding successes being "Death of a Salesman", "The Glass Menagerie" "The Playboy of the Western World" (available on CD) and, in association with Dublin's Gate Theatre, the radio version of "Waiting for Godot".

Marianne Gunn O’Connor is one of the leading literary agents in Ireland and England (and one of only a handful based in Ireland). She represents such authors as Cecelia Ahern, Patrick McCabe and Niall Williams.

Presented by South Dublin Libraries, Get Published is not meant as an opportunity to present manuscripts to any of these speakers (although a contact list of outlets and agents will be provided) but as a chance for emerging writers to ask practical questions and seek advice about how to start trying to get their work published or broadcast.

Places are strictly limited and must be booked by telephoning 01 459 7959 from 9.30am Wednesday 23rd February 2005
