Mayor Robert Dowds will officially launch a competion, for Special Olympics Ireland on 11th March 2005, at 11ami in the Civic Offices in Clondalkin.
Following a public meeting in the Green Isle Hotel on 2nd December last, a core group affiliated with Special Olympics Ireland was formed to establish a Special Olympics Network for the Clondalkin /Saggart /Rathcoole and Newcastle area. The first meeting of that group took place on 31 January 2005.
We are starting from a zero base and one of the first tasks we identified was to create awareness of our existence in the locality. Recognizing that our name is somewhat cumbersome, we have decided to run a competition for the primary schools in the Clondalkin/Saggart/Rathcoole/Newcastle area to find us a new, functional, and more user friendly name.
Hopefully, this competition will help publicize the existence of the network in the locality, while also stimulating children’s awareness of individuals with special needs.
We hope that you will support this local initiative. Additional information regarding Special Olympic Network and Special Olympics Ireland is available at www.specialolympics.ie.
