Mayor Robert Dowds attends  Sod turning Ceremony at the site of the proposed new Brookfield Community and Youth Centre and Housing Development at Brookfield, Tallaght on the 27th January 2005.

The Sod turning ceremony at the proposed new Community and Youth Centre at Brookfield, Tallaght, was performed by the Mayor Councillor Robert Dowds today.

Speaking at the ceremony the Mayor said that it was an historic day for the people of Brookfield and the surrounding area.

The local people could now look forward to having a “state of the art” centre to call their own.  Facilities in the Centre will include a long life education service provided by the County Dublin VEC,  a youth drop in centre, an arts room and meeting rooms.  The building will be ready for use at the end of the year or early in 2006. The housing units which will also be part of the development will complete the village environment and will be much welcomed by the lucky families who will occupy them.

The Mayor thanked the various agencies who provided the funding for the Community and Youth Centre, the Young Person’s Facilities and Services Fund, the Department of the Environment Heritage and Local Government, and South Dublin County Council who also provided the site.  He thanked the local Working Group and the Council Staff for their work in getting the project to this stage.
