Ballyboden St Endas GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football Club
Cumann CamógaÃochta na nGael (Camogie Association) is currently celebrating its centenary (1904-2004) and like all camogie clubs, Ballyboden St. Endas has organised a programme of events to celebrate the occasion.
The programme which has received a Community Grant from South Dublin County Council began last May with a Juvenile blitz for under 13s (300 girls took part) and an art competition for primary schools in our catchment area.
Camogie had a brief existence in the late 1970s in Ballyboden St Endas but the game began in earnest in 1983 and has been a vibrant and growing force ever since in the club.
The club currently fields 13 teams from under 11 to senior ranks – the largest number of teams in the country.
In the past 21 years the club has won titles in all grades including three Dublin senior championship titles from 1999-2001. The club also won the All-Ireland Féile na nGael (under 14) crown in 1999.
In all, the club has won 40 Dublin championship titles, the most recent being the Junior title won last Saturday 4 September 2004.
Including the Saturday morning nurseries for Under 10s at the clubhouse and the Hermitage, the club caters for in the region of 400 girls who play camogie.
Cumann CamógaÃochta na nGael (Camogie Association) has over 80,000 members nationally and is the largest female team sport in the country. The highpoint of the year is the All-Ireland Final which takes place on Sunday 19 September 2004 in Croke Park.
The exhibition at Ballyroan Library will cover artwork from local schools, historical information, jerseys, playing gear down through the century, trophies and other memorabilia.
The President of Cumann CamógaÃochta na nGael, Miriam O’Callaghan will be present at the launch as will Eileen Duffy O’Mahoney – one of Dublin’s representatives on the Team of the Century which was chosen earlier in the year.
