Deansrath Community College Gospel Choir in association with South Dublin County Council Community Services Department to attend International Choir Festival in Estonia

An invitation has been received from the County Manager of our twin town Kreis Segeberg in Germany, for a choir from our County to attend a choir festival in Estonia, from the 10th August to 17th August. There will be choirs from Germany, Poland; Estonia, Finland and Ireland taking part.

The Council has accepted the invitation and has invited Deansrath Community College Gospel Choir to represent South Dublin at this International Choir Festival

Deansrath Gospel Choir was formed in October 2002 as a result of a gospel song performed at a school celebration. Since then the choir has performed in Ireland’s National Concert Hall for the past two years as part of the VEC’s Festival of Music. They were also selected to perform at the Dublin Diocesan Prayer Initiative in the O’Reilly Hall, Belvedere College.

During this year the choir attended and performed in an inter cultural event in St Ronan’s Primary School in Clondalkin. At a recent Parish Mission they assisted in the musical animation of the Liturgy.

The choir comprises of twelve girls whose age’s range from thirteen to seventeen and is lead by their musical director Clodagh O’Gorman.

This is a great opportunity for the young people to travel to this new member state of the European Community. It will enable them to meet young people from different cultures and backgrounds whilst showcasing the wealth of talent this County has to offer.

The group will be accompanied by three teachers from Deansrath Community College and Judith Edmonds from the Community Services Department.
