Community Spirit Awards Thursday 27th May at 7 o Clock
Mayor Máire Ardagh , on behalf of South Dublin County Council and Tallaght Youth Services will host the Community Spirit Awards to youth groups in Tallaght for citizenship projects carried out since September 2003 in County Hall Tallaght on 27/5/2004.
Each of the clubs who entered for the Awards will display their projects on the night. Projects will have been judged under four different categories with one club being chosen out of each category. An overall winner of the Awards will be presented with a perpetual trophy by the Mayor. The categories are: Social Issues/Human Rights; Cultural and Education Through Sport; Environmental; and Services to the Community.
The format of the evening will include music from Tallaght Youth Band and songs from St. Mark’s Foróige Club.Tea and coffee will be served.
This year 19 clubs have entered their projects.
One club created a wild flower garden in their Girls Primary School. Another club engaged in cross-community exchanges with a Protestant group from Belfast and a Muslim group from Blackburn. Other projects included a survey of young people to identify issues affecting them, and filmed short scenes exploring issues such as alcohol, drugs and suicide; a sponsored hillwalk and inter-club disco to help raise money for a bus for the disabled people in their area; a Family Fun Sports Day for the community to promote a healthy lifestyle with proceeds going to Focus Ireland and the Irish Heart Foundation.
