The North Clondalkin Slí na Sláinte route was officially launched on Tuesday 20th April 2004 by Councillor Deirdre Doherty Ryan, Chair of the Lucan Clondalkin Area Committee representing Mayor Ardagh.  The launch reception was held in Quarryvale Community and Leisure Centre.

The route was developed by the Irish Heart Foundation and supported by South Dublin County Council and the South Western Area Health Board .

The Slí na Sláinte ( “ Path to Health”) is an outgoing way to make walking for Leisure and good health even more enjoyable.

Speaking at the launch, Councillor Deirdre Doherty Ryan said that ‘People are becoming more aware of the health benefits of walking, the route is a valuable addition to the area and a compliment to the route development committee.’

Barbara Dalton, Slí Na Sláinte Programme Manager at the Irish Heart Foundation said, “We are delighted to open the new Slí na Sláinte. It is important that adults engage in 30 minutes of physical activity, preferably on a daily basis, as part of a healthy lifestyle. Walking is an ideal way to do just that. It keeps your heart strong, improves muscle strength and makes you feel good. But above all walking is fun. So our message to everyone now is…Let’s Go Walking”.

The North Clondalkin Slì is 6km in length and can be started at any point along the route. The Slì follows Fonthill road for 2km towards Rowlagh and Ronanstown turning left onto the Old Lucan Road after Sean Kavanagh’s Garage. Continue past Ronanstown Garda Station on the Old Lucan Road and turn left onto Neilstown Road, passing the Ronanstown Youth Service on the left. Continue along Neilstown Road; continue walking past Collinstown Park Community College and Rowlagh Shopping Centre up to the Quarryvale roundabout. Turn right onto Coldcut Road, and continue walking to the traffic lights at B&Q. At B&Q turn left, continue on towards the Cineplex. At the Cineplex and bus terminal roundabout turn left heading for Fonthill road. Pass the entrance for Quarryvale and take the next left back onto Fonthill road to complete the 6km route.
