New Bin Tag System in place from Monday 2nd February in South Dublin County

From next Monday Customers are required to use the new Bin Tag system. Letters have gone to all householders advising them of this requirement and explaining the process.

There has been tremendous support for the charges since the middle of 2003 and this is reflected in the amount of householders who have paid and are still paying. On daily basis revenue is still coming in.

Stats;

Approx 75,000 households in the County.

(16,000 have received a waiver and it is estimated that another 4,000 are eligible ) –

out of a remaining 55, 000 liable for charge approx 75% of payments have been received at this stage. *

Since the beginning of 2004 arrears payments have continued to come in.

e.g.  On 27th January 500 householders made payments either online, using credit card, by telephone or in person at County Hall or Civic Centre Clondalkin.

The Council made January a charge free month throughout the County in order to allow residents to assimilate the information and to have their questions regarding the new system answered.  Free Tags for the first week have been issued to householders with information re usage and lists of outlets where additional tags may be purchased.

At this stage all grey bins should carry either a yellow or a blue label.

The blue label indicates

·         An annual payment made

·         Small business or shop

·         Residence run by Management Company ( eg apartment complex)

·         Waiver given

The Yellow label indicates a pay per collection and should be accompanied by a Bin Tag attached to the handle.

From Monday collection will only be made under these circumstances-

Strictly - No payment /arrangement to pay/ annual payment / waiver

-          No collection will be made

The system is an equitable one putting the onus on the householder to recycle and is accompanied by a generous waiver scheme for low income families.

Percentages / figures apply at date of release
