At the Council Meeting on the 12th January the County Manager reported on the situation regarding the illegal disposal by dumping of waste in South Dublin County, specifically in Lynches Lane, Clondalkin
The problems at this location are being tackled by the Council in a planned and systematic way. This will involve a clean up of the area but also put preventative measures in place to avoid recurrence of dumping here. Resources for the clean up and security of the area have been provided in the Council‘s estimate in 2004.
The plan for the area involves action in four different areas.
The first will seal off the area to help prevent future access by illegal operators and tight security will be provided at the location.
A clean up of the area will follow when opportunities for recurrence of the problem have been removed.
The Council will then move to tackle illegal waste operators throughout the County.
Under waste regulations permits are required by operators for the collection and dumping of waste. To move waste though the County, transfrontier shipment authorization is also needed.
Prosecution though the Courts and conviction under the waste regulations may result in fines in the region of €10,000.
Householders in South Dublin who use the services of such operators will also be targeted and fined if refuse or waste matter dumped can be traced back to them. Substantial fines up to €1,500 will be charged by the Council in these instances.
The Council appeals to householders in this County, not to employ the services of illegal operators and would welcome information such as household flyers from Collectors without permit.
These may be forwarded to the Environmental Services Department, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24. Similarly, information such as Car Registration numbers of persons illegally dumping would be welcomed.
