SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL ANNOUNCES NEW BIN COLLECTION SERVICE FOR 2004

From 2004 South Dublin County Council will introduce a new system of bin collection charges.
Instead of the previous flat annual charge of €190, the householder will pay only for each time they put out their black bin for collection.
This is the new “Pay by Volume†system and is expected to encourage householders to recycle more through the green bin on their doorstep, and in doing so will save money.
The “ Pay by Volume “ system will work as follows: each householder instead of paying a flat charge per year will fix a “bin tag†to the black bin when leaving it for collection.
Each bin tag will cost €6 for a standard bin and €3 for a small bin and will be available from numerous outlets, (such as petrol stations and local shops), as well as from your local South Dublin County Council office.
In turn, this system will cut down on refuse collected going to landfill and save money for the householders. “You will only pay for what goes into your black bin. You will save money by recycling,†said Tom Doherty, Director of Environmental Services, South Dublin County Council.
Householders with up to date accounts, or those with waivers at December 31, 2003 will be supplied with a special annual authorisation label. The label, which will have to be placed on the outside of their black wheelie bin, directly under the handle and clearly visible to the collection staff, will authorise the usage of the “Pay by Volume†system.
Please ensure that your bin carries both label and tag since the Council can only collect from bins displaying both.
Householders, don’t delay, make those arrangements to make arrears payments before December 31, 2003 and ensure your waste collection for next year.
