Press Release
Killinarden Childcare Management Ltd is a community based out of school childcare service facilitating children in primary schools in Killinarden and surrounding areas. We facilitate collection from six schools in the West Tallaght area. Our hours are 12 – 6 pm during term time and 8.30 – 6.00 pm during all school holidays. Over the summer months the service ran an Environmental Arts Project once a week in partnership with Tallaght Community Arts council. This was a recycling project entitled “If I could build a townâ€. The local community became involved with collecting recyclable goods for use in the project.
Over the course of 10 weeks, twenty-three children aged from 4 to 12 years, designed and built a "city", using recycled materials, paints,
photographs and "found objects". The aims of the project were to develop the creative skills of the children, as well as to demonstrate to them that certain waste products can be recycled and transformed into interesting, useful objects.
Further there were talks, stories, discussions and workshops on environmental issues, architecture, town planning and the various uses of buildings and dwellings. Inclusive in the plan for the city, the children were encouraged to make allowance for green spaces as well as roads and traffic system.
An Mhéara of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Máire Ardagh will present certificates to each child for its participation in the project. Thanks to Deborah Moon, Managing Director Tallaght Community Arts Council, Mary Pine, Senior Executive Officer from Development Department South Dublin County Council and Manager of Killinarden Childcare Management Ltd. Lelia Murphy, who signed the certificates in recognition of the children’s work. The Project was launched on Saturday 8th November between 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm in the children’s section Tallaght Library.
The project will be on exhibition in the children’s section of Tallaght Library Civic Offices, The Square, Dublin 24 for a three-week period.
