Tourism Promotion in South Dublin County.
Since the publication of the Council’s Strategy document “ Managing the Future†and the County Development Plan “ A Place for People “, the promotion of our County and its Tourism / Visitor potential is high on the Agenda. The aim is to publicise and promote South Dublin’s Events and Natural Amenities, it Sports and Recreational facilities, the County’s visitor facilities and its built infrastructure.
South Dublin County is a new county, only established in 1994 and will continue to mature and develop in the coming years. To date, its infrastructure of roadways have been built, its Parks, Sports and Leisure facilities developed, New Hotels with conference and leisure facilities added, Restaurants and Shopping Centres completed, and visitor facilities such as Golf Courses and Caravan and Camping site put in place. Future projects in the pipeline will include Water Leisure Strategy and New County Arts Centre.
The Council has recently given a commitment to Tourism Promotion to set up a Mayors Task Force on Tourism following a Motion put down by Mayor, Councillor Maire Ardagh at the September Council Meeting.
“That this Council establishes a tourism task force to promote tourism in the County in 2003/2004.â€
As a lead agency in the County the Council gives a specific commitment to promote this County and to deliver on the development of a Tourism Strategy for South Dublin County.
The first step being taken in the development of this proactive approach is to put together a Tourism Audit of attractions and natural and built amenities that the Council will promote in conjunction with other agencies and groups involved in Tourism in our area. It is expected that this first stage will be completed by December this year.
This Tourism Audit will include input from all relevant Agencies in the County including the proposal mooted by the South Dublin Chamber of Commerce for the future development of the Hell Fire Club as a centre for Halloween celebrations.
