Like Wine Through Water: A Celebration of the Reader

South Dublin County Council
Arts & Libraries

Plaza Hotel, Tallaght

November 1st 2003 – 9.30am – 5pm

South Dublin Libraries in association with South Dublin County Arts Office will hold a ‘Readers’ Day’ entitled Like Wine through Water on Saturday November 1st 2003.  The title comes from the following quote by Emily Bronte:

I've dreamt in my life dreams that
have stayed with me ever after, and
changed my ideas: they've gone through
and through me, like wine
through water,
and altered the colour of my mind
.

The emphasis, therefore, is on the reader, with the idea that every time one reads, one is inherently changed, each in a different way. A number of key figures in the world of Irish and international literature have been invited to take part in the one-day seminar which will be held in the Plaza hotel in Tallaght, Dublin 24.  The aim of this project is to promote and celebrate the reader who is often seen as something abstract in the literary world.  This day will provide a vital link between authors and those who read their books and will provide physical proof that their work has meaning for people they don’t actually know.

The core audience will comprise members of the book clubs, which are facilitated throughout the five branches of our library network as well as members of the public.
