12 Noon Thursday 2nd October

Speech by Mayor Maire Ardagh on launching The Exchange Development which was held at 12 Noon Thursday 2nd October

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am delighted to be here today to officially open THE EXCHANGE by Breydon Developments

Tallaght Town Centre has developed at a very rapid pace due mainly to the urban renewal tax incentives. The Town Centre serves its immediate population of over eighty thousand persons but also has an estimated five hundred thousand person catchment within 30 minutes drive.

¨     A number of major developments have taken place in Tallaght Town Centre in the last 15 years including: -

-                     The Square Shopping Centre

-                     Tallaght Hospital one of the largest teaching Hospitals in Europe

-                     Institute of Technology Tallaght

-                     Council Civic Offices, County Library and The Civic Theatre

¨     To-day I am pleased to announce the launch of a major €70 million development constructed by Michael McNamara & Co. on behalf of

-                     Breydon Developments Ltd and

-                     St. John of God Hospitaller Services

¨     This is the first of many flagship projects to be completed in the Town Centre accommodating a mix of uses including Residential Apartments and Office Accommodation. I am particularly happy that St. John of God decided to expand their services from their modest facility on Cookstown Way to this state of the art facility at The Exchange to provide services for: -

1.      St. John of God Menni Services Day Care for people with intellectual disability - Residential Respite Unit.

2.    St. John of God Lucena Clinic Services – Children’s Mental Health Service.

As you can see from the number of Developments in the Town Centre Area South Dublin County Council is totally committed to the re-development and expansion of Tallaght into a modern and vibrant city.

I wish Breydon Developments and St. John Of God every success in the future and I now invite you to join me in officially opening this landmark development ”The Exchange”
