IT always seems like an unlikely scenario in Ireland, but with the current dry spell one council has warned of water shortages.

Despite one of the wettest winters on record, Fingal County Council has urged householders to conserve water. The areas most affected are Balbriggan, Balrothery, Balscadden and The Naul, as well as parts of Skerries, Lusk and Ballyboughal. Householders are advised:

* Don't water your garden.

* Don't take baths, take a shower instead.

* Don't wash your car.

* Don't leave your sink unplugged.

Water is also to be conserved by the council in the areas specified between midnight and 6am.

The Met office has forecast rain for tomorrow, however.
