10 years ago our political fathers recognized the need to establish a number of county councils to serve the county area of Dublin. The title of South Dublin was attributed to this area by virtue of the fact that it is the gateway to the country and in particular the south of the country. The M.50 motorway giving the county a highly strategic location for manufacturing, distribution and service industries with our international airport only 20 minutes away traverses the county. The high quality, attractive landscape and environmental standards for our residents and businesses have all led to a recognition of the performance of the council and the identification of the county as South Dublin. It is accepted that prior to the establishment of South Dublin Co. Co. many would have referred the south of the county of Dublin to the Donnybrook / Dun Laoghaire area. This is not the case now and a number of prestigious groups including the Chamber of Commerce are both proud and happy to identify with South Dublin in the knowledge that its location is clear in everyone’s mind. We intend to continue to develop the role and evolution of our county in the years ahead and establish South Dublin in the minds of business people, the public and tourists alike.
