South Dublin Libraries will launch their new Mobile Library vehicle at St Bridget’s Girls National School, Palmerstown on Friday 30th May.  Mayor Jim Daly performs the launch, which will be attended by pupils and teachers at the school.

South Dublin Libraries Mobile Service has a membership of some 4,500.  We have 4 vans in the fleet, which make some 46 calls around the South County each week.  The distinctive red vans, with their drivers and staff cover areas from Brittas to Rathfarnham, Rathcoole and Newcastle, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Lucan and various stops in between.  They operate daily, Monday – Thursday, scheduled for morning, afternoon and evening, (up to 8pm) stops. A Housebound service, which serves people unable to get to a library through disability or age, operates from South Dublin’s Branch Libraries each Friday under the auspices of the Mobile Library Service.

The Mobiles also call to a number of schools in the areas where school children, with the co-operation of their teachers, can avail of the service during school hours.

03 D, the new van carries a stock of some 2,500 items, which includes books, magazines, Talking Books and CDs.  Future plans include the provision of public access computers.

Keep an eye out for the mobile library service in your area.  Time- tables are available on board or from 45 97 834 or email mobiles@sdublincoco.ie
