Launch of Multicultural Books for Young Readers
April 23rd 2003 County Library Tallaght
South Dublin Libraries launched their collection of multicultural books for children in the County Library, Tallaght on Unesco World Book Day on April 23rd 2003.
These new books will offer young readers a chance to learn about other cultures, to experience other lives and stories and help them see the colourful tapestry of our world. Many of the books deal with universal concerns and interests of children and some of them are dual-language providing a bridge between cultures. All of them celebrate similarities as well as differences which will hopefully, lead to mutual understanding amongst children. The collection however is mainly about fun and enjoyment of the written word!
Mayor Jim Daly of South Dublin County Council joined with Siobhan Parkinson, children’s author and editor, to launch the multicultural collection and both adults and children alike enjoyed a world of music and face-painting.
Photographs of the event are attached.
