Official Opening Quarryvale Community and Leisure Centre

by An Tanáiste Ms. Mary Harney TD

In the presence of the Mayor of

South Dublin County Council Councillor Jim Daly.

On 7th April 2003 at 12.15pm

The original Quarryvale Community Centre was built in the early 90’s.  Although innovative at the time, in later years the original Centre was not capable of meeting the needs of the local community. Initially funding was approved under the EU URBAN programme and South Dublin County Council developed a development plan to deliver the new centre.

Consultation with the local community followed and requirements identified included facilities for the provision of a comprehensive range of services. These requirements were incorporated into an imaginative architectural design.  An all-weather flood - lit football pitch and dressing rooms were also included at a later stage. A local management committee was put in place to oversee the management of the facility under a licence agreement with South Dublin County Council.

The centre is now operational with a full complement of staff funded by FÁS, South Dublin County Council and the Young Persons Facilities and Services Fund.

Services provided in the centre are:

§        Teen Counselling,

§        Community Development,

§        Music Tuition,

§        Youth Service,

§        Local Employment Services,

§        Disability Group Services,

§        After School Projects,

§        Health Services,

§        Tower Programme,

§        Martial Arts,

§        Sporting Facilities,

§        Drama,

In addition to the corporate sponsorship and the EU URBAN funding the Council also gratefully acknowledges funding received from the Young Persons Facilities and Services Fund, administrated by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, from the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism and from the Clondalkin Partnership.
