Commemorating the Bicentenary of Robert Emmet’s Rebellion of 1803

The official launch by the Mayor Cllr. Jim Daly of ‘For His Country He Died’ takes place on Thursday April 3rd at 7.30pm in Ballyroan Library.  These bicentennial commemorations comprise exhibitions and lectures pertaining to Emmet’s rebellion of 1803.  Also included in the month-long programme are some interactive historical activities from the same period for children. Brochures, which are available from all branch libraries, give a full listing of events.

The Ballyroan Library exhibition is entitled ‘Emmet and the Rathfarnham Connection’ and focuses on Emmet’s unique association with this district whilst the second exhibition, which may be seen in Tallaght, Clondalkin and Lucan Libraries gives a broader picture of the Rebellion.  Lectures being given in several of the libraries include;

Dr Ruan O’Donnell (University of Limerick)

The Rising of 1803 in South Dublin

Kildare involvement in the Emmet Rebellion – an illustrated talk

Séamus Cullen

Robert Emmet the Making of a Hero

Dr. Patrick Geoghegan (Trinity College Dublin)

Anne Devlin Heroine of 1803

Mary Cullen (N.U.I. Maynooth).
