New Childcare Facilities for Jobstown

Mayor Jim Daly, will mark the start of the building of a new early education centre on Wednesday 26th March at 11.00 am by turning the sod on a new facility next to the Jobstown Community Centre.  Local residents will be able to avail of a service and access different educational and career opportunities, with childcare available to them.

This will enhance the development of the local area and help break the cycle of poverty that affects some families in this Rapid area.

The project is supported by South Dublin County Council, who has provided financial and architectural support for the group. The Council also provided the site.  In total, support from South Dublin County Council, the National Drug Strategy, National Development Plan and the Department of Justice and Law Reform have made a reality this €4 million project.  The Council has plans for 10 residential units to be provided as part of the overall development.

The new, purpose built early childhood education centre is expected to provide high quality childcare to allow parents to return to employment. 57 new affordable child care places will be available to parents for whom child care is a major block to accessing employment and education opportunities, including lone parents, long-term unemployed parents and families of children with special needs.  25 of 57 spaces will be made available to JADD ( Jobstown assisting Drug Dependency) clients to facilitate their rehabilitation.  JADD will move into new and improved premises next to the center when they are completed. JADD has been operating for 7 years and will continue to increase their services as a support group in this community.
