Sacred Heart JNS, Killinarden - Raising their 4th Green Flag for Travel - 17th June 2014
The newly elected Mayor, Fintan Warfield congratulated Sacred Heart Junior National School on receiving their Green Schools Flag for Travel as part of the Green Schools Programme supported by South Dublin County Council and An Taisce.
The Mayor, said “I was part of the 1st green schools committee at my school too, so I know it takes cooperation from all the students, the teachers, the parents and the school community to achieve this flag. I know that the whole school has benefitted from participation by being fitter and happier as a result.”
Sacred Heart Junior National School achieved excellent results by reducing the number of children coming to school by car from 44 % to 29%. Today almost 60% of the students walk to school.
The Mayor continued “The ‘Walk on Wednesday’ (WOW) initiative has been a great success for all the schools who embark on work for their Travel flag.”
Sacred Heart is one of 8 schools in South Dublin County who received their Travel Flag this year. Well done to all.
