Minister Approves New Housing Proposals at three locations for South Dublin County Council.
South Dublin County Council is delighted to announce that the Council has received approval from the Department of Environment Community and Local Government to proceed to build 15 housing units at an estimated cost of €3.4m at the following three locations:
- Belgard Road, Tallaght (3)
- St Finian’s, Lucan (2)
- Suncroft, Tallaght (10)
The projects will be funded from the National Lottery Licence transaction.
The plans and particulars of the proposals had earlier been submitted to the Department of Environment Community and Local Government as part of the Department’s local authority home building initiative designed to yield positive outcomes in terms of addressing housing need, and in generating economic activity and supporting jobs in the labour intensive construction & materials supply area.
In welcoming Minister O’Sullivan’s announcement Director of Services for Housing, Social and Community Development Billy Coman stated that draft proposals for these three schemes were initially outlined to the Council in mid 2013, and we are very pleased that Minister O’Sullivan and the Council have been fully supportive of these initiatives.
Mr Coman also stated that this announcement sees a welcome return to local authority mainstream house building programmes. He said “we completed a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment in 2013 and on the findings of that assessment we looked immediately to identify suitable locations for delivery of social housing units. Construction of these units will commence in 2014 and will be delivered on designated housing sites within the County in areas where there is an identified housing need”.
Members of South Dublin County Council also approved in principle of two further schemes at this week’s March 2014 Council Meeting. These housing schemes include proposals for an 18 unit project on lands to the East of the entrance road access to Mayfield Park, Mayfield Park, Clondalkin and a 28 unit project on undeveloped lands located in the South Eastern corner of the MacUilliam Estate, Fortunestown Lane, Tallaght.
