A Permanent New Magical Fairy Wood was launched In Corkagh Park, Sunday, 2nd March 2014
South Dublin County Council and The Irish Fairy Door Company announced the official opening of an amazing magical new Fairy Wood in the heart of Corkagh Park, Clondalkin.
The official launch took place on 2nd March 2014, from 11am – 1pm in the presence of The Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr, Dermot Looney.
It’s location near the Pet Farm, the Rose Garden, the fishing lakes and the Arboretum will increase the level of free fun young families can have in this award winning park before they get to the playground!Working with South Dublin County Council, the “Fairy Wood” is sponsored by The Irish Fairy Door Company, an Irish-owned company who make little fairy doors for children to place in their homes so that fairies can move in and become their friends.
Commenting on the new Fairy Wood Niamh Sherwin Barry, Chief Story Teller of The Irish Fairy Door Company says: “In reality, the fairies have always visited the trees in Corkagh Park but the new wood has only recently been discovered. We wanted to work with the Council to open up this area and give back to the community where we are based.”
Discover little fairy doors hidden high up in the trees, amongst the leaves. You can download a map online* or you can simply scan the QR code on the signs in the park to access the map on your smartphone. The map tells the stories of the trees and the fairies that visit.
The name of each of the fairies has been written on a plaque below the tree they live in with a description of what they do. There are many fairy characters to discover such as “Big Red” the guardian of the fairy wood; “Ray” who helps the sun shine through the trees and “Luna”, the moonlight fairy. There is also a fairy picnic area, a “Worry Tree” where you can leave all your worries behind and a “Wishing Tree” with a special seat where you can sit and make a wish!
Don’t worry if you don't make it on the day the “Fairy Wood” will be open all year round. South Dublin County Council and The Irish Fairy Door Company have been told the fairies will be visiting Tymon Park very soon.
