South Dublin County Council, in collaboration with Engineers Ireland, launched Engineers Week 2014 at RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre on the 10th February in the presence of Pat Rabbitte T.D., Minister for Energy, Communication and
Natural Resources.
This is a nationwide event coordinated by Engineers Ireland as part of their STEPS to Engineering Programme. This year’s theme is entitled ‘the heart of the community’.
The aim of the Week is to positively promote engineering as a career and to create an awareness of the wonderful, life-enhancing and exciting challenges that engineers are involved in and responsible for.
This year, IT Tallaght and local engineering businesses Vilicom, PM Group and Xilinx are joining with us to provide even more interesting and fun events for a our local children and teenagers throughout the week.
It is a week of activities and workshops for both primary and secondary cycle students from the County and will be attended by 1600 participants from local schools. They will have an opportunity to talk to academics and students from IT Tallaght, and to professional engineers from South Dublin County Council, PM Group, Vilicom and Xilinx about what engineers do and what an important part they will play in our local communities. In addition, a number of tours of Tallaght Stadium will be available for students.
