Mayor Dermot Looney and the Members of South Dublin County Council congratulate the Dublin Senior Hurling Team on their historic Leinster Final success.
The Mayor and members of South Dublin County Council have paid tribute to the Dublin Senior Hurling team following their historic Leinster Final success, the first in 52 years. Speaking at yesterday's meeting of the Council, Mayor Dermot Looney noted that nine of the 15 starting players come from clubs based in South Dublin County, along with two of the subsitutes and four other members of the panel. In total, nine of the panel come from Ballyboden St Enda's, two from Lucan Sarsfields, and one each from St Patrick's Palmerston, St Jude's (Templeogue), Faugh's (Templeogue) and St Mark's (Tallaght).
Mayor Looney congratulated manager Anthony Daly and the selectors, and stated that "the Leinster Final win is testament to many long years of development work with young players, and a fitting outcome to the efforts made in Dublin hurling over the last decade and beyond. It is a victory for all of Dublin hurling and one which gives great hope for the rest of the Championship and for the future. I wish the panel all the best in the weeks ahead as they prepare for an All-Ireland semi-final and, hopefully, we will be welcoming Liam McCarthy to South Dublin in September!"
