Eco Week 2013 masked crusaders

Monday 22^nd April County Hall, Mayor Cllr Cathal King officially launched Eco-Week 2013 and presented certificates & prizes to winning students of the South Dublin County Council funded Garbo Productions Co Co Nuts - Kids Anti-litter Drama & recycled Masks competition.

Mayor King said “This year Eco-Week workshops and activities had great variety ranging from the pollinator’s projects, to upcycling in your garden, to Tallaght IT ‘Goes Green Week’, to Eco Pop-up shops and Smile :-) Resource Exchange. I was very glad to participate in the first event to launch Eco week and I urge everyone to try and get to an Eco week event this week”

Mayor King continued “The Co-Co Nuts masked parade was wonderful – I was delighted to see all the imaginative masks created by the young people out of recyclable materials. The young people also created their own anti-litter slogans to let people in the County know that everyone should help Tackle Litter to keep South Dublin County Clean”

Sorcha O’Brien, Environmental Awareness Officer said “You can see that the students put a lot of effort and thought into their work. The masks are very clever in their use of recyclable materials and the slogans get to the heart of the matter, lets all try and keep South Dublin County Clean”

The winners of the Co Co Nuts - Kids Anti-litter Drama & recycled Masks competition are as follows:

· First place: Kate Shortland St. Paul's GNS GreenhillsWalkinstown

· Second place: Sophie Pemberton St Killian’s Kingswood

· Third place: Katie O Reilly St Paul’s Girls NS Greenhills Walkinstown

The Runners-up of the Co Co Nuts - Kids Anti-litter Drama & recycled Masks competition are as follows:

· Eireann Stenson St Pauls Girls National School , Greenhills

· Enis Salman Whitechurch National School

· Javiar Borza Lucan East Educate Together

· Kelly Samantha Norton St Damian’ National School, Walkinstown
