Glenbrook Bridge, Rathfarnham re-opens after construction works

Glenbrook Bridge located off Willbrook Road in Rathfarnham, spans the Owendoher River providing pedestrian access to the Glenbrook housing estate. Remedial works were required after the bridge was closed for health and safety reasons following the severe weather in October 2011, when damage to the bridge supports was established during a survey of the structure.

Works to repair the bridge structure commenced in August 2012, following a period of consultation with Inland Fisheries Ireland. Damaged and misplaced stonework was removed from the river bed and replaced with reinforced concrete and selected stone fill materials, all below significant depths of water. The works also included the construction of protection measures to the substructure of the existing Glenbrook Bridge to safeguard against future severe weather events.

The work was completed on time and within budget and re-opened on the 1st October 2012. South Dublin County Council would like to thank local residents and users of the bridge for their co-operation during the construction works.
