Maths trail in Sean Walsh Park

The Mayor Cathal King launched a Maths Trail in Sean Walsh Park along with the pupils from 6th class, Sacred Heart Senior National School on Friday 28th September.

The Maths Trail was developed in conjunction with Institute of Technology, Tallaght (ITT) & the National Adult Literacy Agency(NALA) and the launch takes place during Literacy Awareness Week.

Mayor Cathal King said “I am delighted to launch the Sean Walsh Park Maths Trail with the students from Sacred Heart National School. A math’s class in the park – that’s something I would like to have had when I was at school. I really like the Maths Eyes approach –finding ways to solve problems. We all do that every day – it’s a life skill. This approach to learning is fun, its using all our senses, its getting out and enjoying nature” He added “ I congratulate the ITT, Sacred Heart Senior National School, NALA and the Council. I look forward to seeing more of this innovative educational use of parks.”

The maths trail is available for 3 different levels and ensures everyone has activities to do and problems to solve - the levels are aimed at young children, primary schools students, older students and adults. Teachers, students and members of the public can download the maths trail from the Council website www.sdcc.ie and also from the “Have you got Maths eyes” website http://www.haveyougotmathseyes.com/
