PRESS RELEASE ISSUED 19TH MAY 2009
Official opening of Sean Walsh Park Playground, Wednesday 27th May 2.30pm
On Wednesday 27th May at 2.30pm Sean Walsh Park Playground will be officially opened by Mayor Marie Corr.
This park is a wonderful amenity that is going from strength to strength with the recent development of the Garden for All Seasons, the continued improvement in the parks general accessibility, the upgrading of the lake and surrounds, the adjoining Tallaght Stadium and the newly constructed playground.
As part of the original development of the park, Whitestown stream was realigned to provide a series of lakes and waterfalls creating an idyllic moated island, the location of the new playground.
The playground is now a major visitor attraction in the County and is visible from Tallaght By-Pass (N81), Belgard Road and Plaza Hotel and is a focal point for play in the heart of Tallaght.
The playground was designed to provide universally accessible, imaginative and interactive play. There are three play zones
The lower zone is for children aged 2-6 years.
The upper zone is for children aged 6-14 years. The Quilla boulder and the latest version of the interactive NEOS are both the first of their kind in Ireland.
And an outdoor gym known as the Tone Zone provides aerobic exercise for all abilities.
The opening of Sean Walsh Park Playground is an important milestone in furthering the development of Sean Walsh Park and South Dublin County while promoting pro-social interaction for children of all ages and abilities.
