PRESS RELEASE ISSUED: 15th MAY 2009

Tallaght Stadium will be officially opened on Wednesday, 27th May, 2009 at 4.00pm, by the Mayor of South Dublin County, Marie Corr and Mr. Martin Cullen T.D, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism.

The stadium is a purpose built, state-of-the-art facility. With Phase 1 completed, its already becoming a hub of community activity in Tallaght. Owned by South Dublin County Council the stadium opened its doors to the public in March when anchor tenants Shamrock Rovers FC hosted their first home game.

Currently the stadium has a capacity of 3,300 people; however construction is underway on a second stand which is set to be finished by the end of the summer. When both stands are complete, the stadium will have the ability to host almost 7,000 spectators. There is also room to develop a third and fourth stand at either goal end, potentially adding another 4,000 seats, taking the capacity to over 10,000 people.

The project, which was promoted by the Community Services Department of the Council, was managed by the Architects Department, in particular Eddie Conroy, County Architect and Maire OSullivan, Senior Architect and constructed by P J McLoughlin Ltd.

It is envisaged that this facility will put Tallaght on the map for all the right reasons and one that the people of South Dublin County will be proud of.
