South Dublin County Council celebrates Earth Day

South Dublin County Council celebrates Earth Day by providing sustainable options. Included amongst the services and activities provided are the following

Recycling facilities

Bring Banks South Dublin County Council provides 59 bring bank sites around the county where householders can recycle a variety of materials Glass, Textiles and Aluminium Cans,

Ballymount Civic Amenity accepts a variety of household waste for recycling including WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) free of charge. Other non recyclable household waste and hazardous household waste is accepted with a charge.

Green Schools - 45 Primary Schools and 6 Secondary Schools have been awarded the Green Flag in South Dublin County. Green-Schools is an international environmental education programme and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole-school action for the environment.

Green Communities

Green Communities is designed to encourage groups to actively enhance local biodiversity, while also minimizing the carbon footprint of their activities. The programme is aimed at groups who are interested or already involved in community based environmental work.

Sustainable Urban Communities

Adamstown is a planned urbandevelopment of 10,000 residential units with associated transport and community infrastructure. Adamstown is a Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), for which a Planning Scheme or Masterplan was prepared. The Planning Scheme provides a legal framework for phased development of residential and infrastructural works. Adamstown is based around walkable neighbourhoods located in close proximity to high quality public transport linkages.

Climate Change

South Dublin County Council through the Environment Strategic Policy Committee (SPC), in accordance with the National Climate Change Strategy has prepared a climate change strategy for South Dublin County. The purpose of this strategy is to promote best practice in relation to climate change issues.
