South Dublin Libraries celebrate World Book Day 23rd April 2009

South Dublin Libraries are always thrilled to participate in World Book Day, to highlight the role of libraries in the promotion of, and access to reading and to organize events that entice and encourage readers.

This day of course, marks a year since the opening of our Flagship Library, The County Library, Tallaght, one of the most innovative public libraries in Europe. It has been a record-breaking year for South Dublin Libraries, with over one million titles borrowed over the year and over one million people visiting our services. 2009 also saw South Dublin Libraries being the overall winner of prestigious e-Government Award for its Digital Download Zone which allows 27/7 access to online E-Books and Audio Books.

World Book Day is a designated UNESCO day to celebrate, promote and highlight reading and publishing. It is celebrated on April 23rd the anniversary of several world known authors - Shakespeare, Nabokov and Cervantes.

This year there are a range of activities organized throughout our libraries.
