PRESS RELEASE ISSUED 3rd FEBRUARY 2009

South Dublin County Roads update

All main routes in the County are presently open to traffic. The Councils full gritting and salting resources are deployed at present. Gritting has taken place throughout the day and all staff are on alert this evening. Following heavy showers of snow, traffic disruption is likely.

The Councils traffic management centre will remain open to monitor and assess the situation. Fifty staff are involved in this operation and most will work through the night. Today, up to 100 tonnes of salt will be used to treat the Countys roads.

Priority is given to ensuring that main routes are kept open to traffic.

Since November 2008, the roads in South Dublin County have been treated on 56 occasions this is more than twice the amount compared with the same time period last year.
