Beautiful South Dublin County Awards 2008

The Mayor of South Dublin County Marie Corr presented the awards in the Beautiful South Dublin County / tha Cliath Theas go Deas competition on Wednesday 1st October in the Tower Hotel, Whitestown Way, Tallaght. The overall winner of the Beautiful South Dublin County Awards 2008 was Castle Park Residence Association, Clondalkin.

The Mayor congratulated all those who entered the competition. She said you all make a difference to the place you live and work in and whilst doing so you are creating a sense of pride in your community and a greener, cleaner and more sustainable environment for all.

Eanna Ni Lamhna, President of An Taisce, contributor to the Mooney radio programme and author of numerous books was the guest speaker at the event. Eanna was delighted to see such a high level of interest in the environment in South Dublin County and applauded everyone who took part in the competition. She said I am thrilled to see such a variety of entries in the competition this year. It is great to see so many people carrying out positive environmental actions and promoting biodiversity in their local area. Eanna also remarked that she was delighted to see so many people integrating environmental management systems into their efforts like composting, water butts, bird baths, bug hotels and even reusing materials like old wheelbarrows.

The Beautiful South Dublin County competition is about creating a cleaner, greener and more sustainable County for all. This year there were over one hundred and twenty entries in categories ranging from Community Environment Initiative, Local Green Heroes, Junior Environmental Initiative to Residential Associations and Best Street.
