A Heritage Plan for South Dublin County

South Dublin County Council, with the support of the Heritage Council, is in the process of preparing the Countys first Heritage Plan.

Aspects of heritage in South Dublin County include the natural environment, architecture, archaeology, and our cultural inheritance. It is all around us, reflecting all that we have inherited from preceding generations. It helps to define us and it influences the way we live our lives.

The importance of this heritage is recognised in the South Dublin County Development Plan 2004-2010, where the preparation of a County Heritage Plan is a stated objective. The County Heritage Plan will be a five-year programme, listing broad objectives dealing with heritage issues on a county-wide basis. It will offer a broad framework within which the efforts and initiatives of the Council, local groups and state agencies can operate to conserve and manage all aspects of heritage in the County on a partnership basis. It is an opportunity to identify heritage issues and heritage needs at a local level, and to address them locally, within a regional and national framework.

South Dublin County Council is actively encouraging participation in the preparation of the County Heritage Plan. You are therefore invited to take part by attending any of the 5 public consultation meetings being held throughout the County.

Meetings begin at 8pm and will be held in Lucan Library (28th July), Ballyroan Library (31st July), the County Library, Tallaght (28th August), Rathcoole Community Centre (2nd September), and Clondalkin Civic Centre (4th September).

Alternatively, you can submit your views and ideas in writing to Mr. Paddy McNamara in the Planning Department, South Dublin County Council, Tallaght, by 17th September 2008. See www.southdublin.ie for further information.
