Deputy Mayor Guss OConnell, in the presence of Minister Mary Harney, will launch a report which looks at the needs of Older People in the North Clondalkin and Palmerstown areas. The launch will take place in the Cold Cut Club, Cold Cut Road at 2 PM on Tuesday 8th July 2008.
The research was carried out by Collier Broderick Management Consultants and commissioned by a sub-group made up of representatives from Rowlagh Community Development Programme (CDP), Clondalkin Partnership, the North Clondalkin RAPID Programme and South Dublin County Councils Community Department. This sub-group was formed primarily to assess the needs of older people living in North Clondalkin and Palmerstown. A participatory approach involving the older people was adopted in order to enhance ownership of the research and to strengthen the recommendations. The methodology included questionnaires and structured focus group discussions. The recommendations were formulated by a group of older people who participated in the research. The research findings will now be fed back to local agencies and community groups for action.
