COPPER BUCKET MAKING PROGRAMME
On Wednesday 9th July the Mayor of South Dublin County Marie Corr will launch the Copper Bucket Making Programme in County Hall, Tallaght. The copper bucket making programme is part of the Traveller Culture Project the Sports & Recreation Officer, Social Inclusion Officer and Arts Officer are undertaking. The project aims to highlight traveller culture and reintroduce some older traditions to the young traveller population. The Copper Bucket programme aimed to teach four young travellers the art of bucket making over the course of a 6 week programme. Participants attended 3 sessions a week; each session lasting 2 hours in the Car-Line Centre in Clondalkin.
The project gave young members of the traveling community a unique opportunity to learn a valuable skill from an older member of their community.
An exhibition whereby young people involved can showcase their work will take place in County Hall from 9th July 2008 16th July 2008.
Well known craftsman John Donoghue will demonstrate the art of Copper Bucket Making on the evening of the launch.
