South Dublin County Council launch Eco Week 2008
The Mayor Billy Gogarty and Cllr. Tony McDermott, Chair of the Environment Strategic Policy Committee will launch the fourth annual Eco week in South Dublin County on Monday 14th April in the Council Chamber, Tallaght., prior to the Council meeting.
Eco week is an opportunity for everyone in South Dublin to get involved in some environmental activity, there is a wide range available. according to Cllr. Mc Dermott, Chair of the Environment Strategic Policy Committee. He said Climate Change is a topic that affects us all and there are key events organised to address this issue. I would encourage everyone to take part.
Highlights of the week include a talk by Fr Sean McDonagh, a well known activist in the field of ecological and environmental matters; his talk entitled Climate Change and You takes place on Wednesday 16th April at 7.30pm at County Library Tallaght.
The Powerdown Briefing on Thursday 17th at 2pm is aimed at community leaders and citizens and will offer practical ways to respond to climate change and energy uncertainty. There will also be an exhibition of entries from the Beautiful South Dublin County Schools Competition at County Hall and Enfos Ecological Footprints Exhibition will be on display at Clondalkin Civic Offices. A free screening of An Inconvenient Truth at UCI Tallaght at 11.30am and 7.30pm on Thursday 17th April, contact 01 4149292 to book a seat.
In addition over 40 events have been scheduled for schools in South Dublin County these include energy, water and nature workshops. Schools are also encouraged to recycle and a strong recycling and anti litter message is delivered by Roisin Raven Storytelling and travelling theatre groups Down to Earth and Bruscar the Tidy Giant.
