Public Notice

South Clondalkin QUALITY BUS CORRIDOR extension

Pursuant to the requirements of the above, notice is hereby given of the proposal to provide the following scheme: South Clondalkin QBC Extension on Nangor Road (R134) between Outer Ring Road and the Newcastle Road (R120).

The scheme will provide high quality bus priority measures to serve Grange Castle and the surrounding commercial developments. The majority of the scheme will be constructed as part of the Nangor Road Improvement scheme being undertaken as part of the South Dublin County Council non-national roads programme. In addition, it will be necessary to carry out construction works to introduce bus lanes on the section of the Nangor Road between the western end of the existing South Clondalkin QBC and the start of the Nangor Road Improvement Scheme. The overall scheme will provide maximum bus priority between the western end of the existing South Clondalkin QBC and the Newcastle Road (R120). It will also provide improved cycle facilities, improved safety measures and the upgrading of pedestrian crossing facilities.

Dublin Bus are planning to introduce a new Bus Depot in the Clutterland area. This will accommodate buses serving Tallaght, Lucan and Clondalkin. The proposed South Clondalkin QBC Extension will assist in the provision of a high quality access to this depot.

The Scheme will provide considerable benefits for public transport users on the route:

It will provide improved facilities for buses with an increase in bus speeds

It will provide improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

There will be significant time savings for a large number of bus passengers.

There will be no significant impact on journey times for general traffic.

Brief Description of Proposals

The main proposals of the scheme are:

Change the road marking to omit the central hatching in the existing design of the Nangor Road Improvement Scheme and provide for 3m bus lanes in both directions

Carry out road widening to provide 3m bus lanes in both directions between the western end of the existing South Clondalkin QBC and the start of the Nangor Road Improvement Scheme

Replace the existing roundabout at Kilcarbery Business Park and Grangecastle Road roundabout with a four arm signalised junction.

Improve all cycle and pedestrian facilities along the route of the scheme.

It is proposed that the bus lanes will be operational 24 hours Monday to Sunday.

Upgrade all bus stops through the provision of new bus shelters, kassel kerbs etc.

Inbound and Outbound buses will have a dedicated bus lane of approximately 1.7 km in length

Introduce a speed limit of 50km/h along the length of the scheme
