SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL SOCIAL INCLUSION POSTCARD COMPETITION

On Tuesday 20^th November 2007 in the Council Chamber, Councillor Marie Corr

announced the winners of the Social Inclusion Postcard Competition. The idea behind this competition was to ask the Children living here in South Dublin County to design a post card which depicted The Good Things in Life There was a huge response to this competition with over 350 entries from all over the County

 Maria Finn, Social Inclusion Officer said The Competitions aim was to raise awareness and enhance the childrens understanding of some of the issues around social inclusion and diversity here in South Dublin County. Social Inclusion is not just about poverty, its about people being excluded from society, from the good things in life that other people take for granted such as contact with family and friends. This competition provided the children with the opportunity to develop their leaning experiences through working on an artistic interpretation of the concept of social inclusion and it is interesting to note that most of the postcard entries were centred on the themes of family and friends.

 Cllr Corr said Here in South Dublin County we want to develop an inclusive county where every child has the opportunity to participate and reach their true potential. There have been important developments recently in the County such as the County Childcare Committee, the Childhood Development Initiative and South Dublin County Childrens Services Committee. These structures are working towards greater co-ordination at local level to meet the needs of children and their families living here in South Dublin County.

 The Overall Prize Winner with the postcard entitled We Are All On The One Road and was designed by Jordan Strickland aged eleven from St Peter, the Apostle School, Clondalkin.
