South Dublin County Council has been implementing RAS, the Rental Accommodation Scheme, since late 2005. Under the scheme the Council is negotiating availability contracts with the landlords of long-term Rent Supplement Recipients under which the Council gains exclusive nomination rights to the property in return for which the landlord no longer has to collect rent, fill vacancies or pay agency fees, is guaranteed a prompt contract rent payable monthly in advance by the Local Authority for the duration of the contract even if the property is vacant.

To accommodate the tenants of those landlords who have chosen not to enter RAS alternative accommodation is required. One, two, three and four bedroom apartments and houses in all areas of South Dublin County are required for RAS tenants.

Property Developers, Landlords, Property Agents and Owners of Vacant Properties are invited to send details of their property (property type, number of bedrooms, address etc.) and the rent being sought to the RAS Programme Manager, Housing Department, South Dublin County Council, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24, or alternatively email ras@sdublincoco.ie, by 12th October 2007.

Rent levels and value for money will be a major consideration in selecting properties, the condition and location of the property will also be a factor.

The Council will be forming a list of suitably approved properties whose landlords are willing to participate in RAS from which accommodation will be selected as required to house tenants of landlords who have refused to participate in RAS.
