First Green Mayor Elected to South Dublin County Council
At the Annual Meeting of the County Council held on the 29th June, 2007, at County Hall, Tallaght, Councillor Billy Gogarty, Green Party, was elected Mayor unanimously. Mayor Gogarty was proposed by Councillor Tony McDermott and seconded by Councillor Eamonn Maloney.
The outgoing Mayor Eamonn Maloney thanked his fellow Councillors, Management and Staff of the Council for their help and support throughout the year.
Addressing the Council following his election Mayor Gogarty stated inter-alia
I am delighted to be elected as the first Mayor of South Dublin from the Lucan Electoral Area and that over the next year I intend to serve the County to the best of my ability. There are a number of issues which I would like to progress during my tenure. These include measures to protect the environment, encourage good planning and safeguard South Dublins future energy security. Protecting and enhancing the quality of life of our Countys communities will also be a key priority for my time in office.
Councillor Derek Keating, Independent, was elected Deputy Mayor unanimously. Deputy Mayor Keating was proposed by Councillor Guss O Connell and seconded by Councillor Eamonn Tuffy.

Councillor Stanley Laing Terenure/Rathfarnham
All Councillors present paid tribute to their former colleague Councillor Fintan Mc Carthy deceased.
