Oidhreacht Our Heritage photographic competition and exhibition, a South Dublin County Libraries project which aims to raise awareness of the rich heritage of the South Dublin County administrative area is now in its 8th year.

 

The heritage of South Dublin County is wide and varied and includes the built heritage of castles, houses, churches, bridges, mills and monuments; rural, agricultural, mountain, natural and man-made landscapes; urban streetscapes and street furniture; schools, colleges, libraries, museums, heritage centres, community buildings and facilities; roads, lanes, canals, railways and vehicles; sport and entertainment, people at work and at play, customs and practices, festivals, events and occasions, etc

 

The administrative area of South Dublin County area includes Tallaght, Clondalkin Saggart, Rathcoole, Newcastle, Lucan, Templeogue, Brittas, Palmerstown and much of Rathfarnham

 

Any size of photograph which deals with the heritage of the South Dublin County administrative area may be entered for this competition. Your smallest photographs are most welcome. You dont need to mount or frame your entry.

 

Entry is free and is open to all open to all whether or not they live in South Dublin County. Entrants may submit up to three entries. Application forms are available from any branch of South Dublin County Libraries or at www.southdublinlibraries.ie. There are 2 categories under 18 on 21st July 2007 and 18 or over on 21st July 2007. All entries will be included in an exhibition which will run initially at Ballyroan Library during late August and during September 2007 and at other branch libraries at later dates.

 

For the Adult competition, 1st prize is a trophy and 200, 2nd is .125 and 3rd is 50 while for the under 18 competition, 1st prize is a trophy and 100, 2nd prize is 75 and 3rd prize is 50. In previous years the judges have also awarder Highly Commended and Commended certificates.

 

Entries may be handed in to any branch of South Dublin County Libraries: Ballyroan Library; Castletymon Library; Clondalkin Library; Lucan Library; County Library, Tallaght; Whitechurch Library; Stewarts Hospital Library, Palmerstown, or to any South Dublin Mobile Library.

You may also post your entries to: "Oidhreacht Our Heritage" Photographic Competition, County Library, County Hall, Town Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24.

 

The closing date is Saturday 22nd July 2007, so get snapping or select some entries from your stock of photographs. We would love to see them.
