Mayor Eamonn Maloney will be hosting a small recognition event on Wednesday the 20th of June at 12pm in Fettercairn Youth Horse Project, Fettercairn, to acknowledge the achievements of Orla Casey, Emmett Lynsey and Gary Philips. Orla (Fettercairn), Emmett (Jobstown) and Gary (Springfield) are members of Fettercairn Youth Horse Project.  All three were accepted onto the Trainee Jockey course at RACE and have successfully completed the 42 week residential programme and have been awarded the FETAC National Skills Certificate - Trainee Jockey and have obtained a full Level 4 certificate on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Completion of the Traineeship enables participants to sign on as apprentice jockeys and others to be employed as stable staff progressing to roles such as groom, work rider, travelling head lad or assistant trainer.

Over the years many of Irelands leading jockeys and stable staff have passed through the doors of RACE many have gone on to achieve great success on the track, with multiple Derby winner Johnny Murtagh and Cheltenham hero Conor O'Dwyer among the most prominent. Cathy Gannon made history by being the first lady ever in Ireland or Britain to be crowned Champion Apprentice in 2004 while the likes of Robert Winston, Willie Supple, Eddie Ahern, John Egan and Shane Kelly have achieved much international success. A steady stream of promising apprentices has been produced with Rory Cleary and Chris Hayes (Apprentice Champion 2005) being the latest in a long line of talent to emerge from the programme.

We can all agree that it took a lot of hard work and determination to complete their course and their hard work should be recognised.  I know this is short notice but it would be great if everyone could make it down to acknowledge the achievements of three Local Young People.
